Virtual Vault, Linklok & Acrolok - Ebook Security Commentary

Linklok doesn't actually protect the product but the links to the products so that your thank you page can't be indexed by bots and users can't share links. However, Linklok works in conjunction with a product called Acrolok which offers some degree of protection but like Virtual Vault, it excludes Mac users from getting the product and it is an "exe" product which a lot of people don't like. The way Acrolok works is if a legitimate purchaser emails a product to whoever for free, that person on the receiving end has to enter the original purchasers email address and unlock code - if the product is shared in a forum or anywhere else, that original purchasers info will have to go with it and they could be caught if the vendor discovers it.

The problem I have with Virtual Vault, Acrolok and any other reasonably priced e-book security product is that if someone enables the print function which I believe is standard practice, the purchaser can "print to PDF" if they have a version of Adobe that does that, for example version 8 and higher. This is the same thing as saving the file to their computer, and if someone can save a file, they can attach it in an email and send it anywhere they want despite any fancy protection features of the ebook security program (this circumvents it). I have this ability and I love printing everything to PDF, especially web pages which I can save as files on my computer. There are more expensive products out there that can do anything a vendor wants because I purchased an ebook from a company and could print it to my printer but could NOT print to PDF. I tried to find out what ebook security the company used and all they told me is that it was specially programmed for them to do this.

There are people out there that don't believe in ebook security and think it puts the end user through too many hoops, and some people offer FREE ebooks on the Internet and want them passed around to drive traffic back to their websites by putting links throughout their products.

I've realized that products like Virtual Vault and Acrolok stop legitimate purchasers from sharing files but hackers know how to get around anything. However, vendors want something to protect their products and I believe there will always be a demand for these products even though they aren't perfect.

I purchased Linklok.  The customer service is superb and they can help set you up with Acrolok if you want that.  If you're not a super techy, don't worry, the customer service representative(s) will get you through it.

Universal E-Book Readers

I am a writer and am working on publishing my e-book How to Get Rich Buying Real Estate from Your Parents & How to Avoid Foreclosure or a Short Sale on Clickbank.com.  Anyone can download books from Clickbank.com and read it on their computer.

This whole thing about separate companies having difference ebook readers exclusive to them is annoying.  When is there going to be a universal e-book reader that all companies can share and all customers can access.  Hum?

How to Prevent Crawlers from Tracking Content

Because my last name is "Greene" and my name is on my website, when crawlers look at my website for my AdSense Ads, they come up with ads that have the word "Greene" in them which I don't want and have nothing to do with the content of my website.  To eliminate this kind of tracking by crawlers, click here for instructions.  The effect of this programming is not guaranteed by Google and could take up to two weeks for the changes to be processed by the crawlers.
